Christians, you won't believe in selective breeding but you'll believe planting a striped stick will...?

Why would anyone, including Christians, dismiss selective breeding? I am Christian, and I accept all sorts of observable, repeatable science, including the selective breeding of plants and animals practiced since the beginning of time. In fact, a Christian named Gregor Mendel pioneered the study of genetics, if I'm not mistaken. Since many Christians do "believe in selective breeding," I don't see the need for insults.
