For Verizon is it possible to get a smartphone and just pay the $30 requirement for data?

I am a customer for Sprint but ive been thinking about switching to Verizon and i was wondering if you need to get the Unlimited Everything to have a smartphone or if you can just pay the $30 for the smartphone while having a Talk & Text Plan, so is this possible?
