I need help with historical accuracy of my novel im writing?

So the novel involves someone who owns a medicine shop where he concocts his own medicine but treats them as if they were potions, but the people think hes a little nuts and have all lost faith in this time in magic potions actually existing. What year should i set it in that would follow along the lines of medicine shops being popularly established and people losing faith in magic stuff?
