Can a person sue you for not paying for a new book that I damaged?

I don't want to pay because it wasn't my fault It was rainy (I had an open bag). She said it was my responsability and also she want to sue me for verbal abusing her. ( I told her that she need to learn some english, I finished college first than her and I make more money.)
